MELANIN YOUTH FOUNDATION

As a non-profit, our mission is to help young people acquire "life skills"—essential life skills that they would not get in a traditional educational setting. Being a part of the first spark that grows into a fire will allow you to see these individuals blossom into the supernovas of tomorrow. On top of that, we help those in need in our communities by preparing and distributing hot meals, food boxes, fresh veggies, clothing, shoes, socks, toiletries, blankets, medical kits, backpacks, school supplies, and other items that empower and uplift women, men, seniors, veterans, and disadvantaged families.

2023 Year End Summary Report

Impact of 2023

The Melanin Youth Foundation embarked on a journey of community impact and service in 2023, despite facing funding challenges that hindered the launch of planned programs. However, the foundation found alternative avenues to contribute meaningfully to the community. Through partnerships and generous donations, significant strides were made in various outreach initiatives.

**Sock Giveaway:**

Thanks to a generous donation of 9 pallets of socks from Amazon LGB6, the Melanin Youth Foundation organized a sock giveaway. Over 6,000 bundles of socks were distributed to students, staff, and community members at schools such as Columbia Elementary, Manuel L. Real Elementary, Thomas Rivera Middle School, Mead Valley Elementary, and Citrus Hills High School. Additionally, socks were provided to residents and staff at MAGNOLIA REHABILITATION & NURSING CENTER, distributed at local community events, and included in hygiene kits for the homeless during street outreach.

**Community Support:**

With support from Burlington in Murrieta, the foundation assisted the Family Engagement Community Resource and Learning Center in Mead Valley by providing clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and home decor for their clothing pantry. Collaborative efforts with "The Concerned Family," "The City Eats," and "Power Speaks Louder" resulted in the "Nourish Mead Valley" event, providing hot meals, fresh produce, and essential items to the homeless and community members.

**Staff Appreciation:**

During Staff Appreciation Week, the foundation expressed gratitude to educators and staff at local schools with special tokens of appreciation and gift bags. Leelah, the owner of "Lucky Treasure Hunt" in Moreno Valley, played a pivotal role in these efforts.

**Support for Homeless, Senior, and Battered WomanWomen Outreach:**

The Melanin Youth Foundation received pivotal support from community partners like Amazon LGB6, Burlington, Lucky Treasure Hunt in Moreno Valley, and the Hampton Inn. These partners provided essential items such as blankets, sheets, feminine products, and more, which were distributed during outreach initiatives targeting homeless individuals, seniors, and battered women.

Youth Empowerment through Sports:

Through partnerships with the Ontario Clippers, the foundation facilitated access to basketball clinics, mentorship programs, and ticket giveaways for local youth. These efforts aimed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and leadership skills among young athletes while also fostering a sense of community pride and belonging.

**Fan Engagement and Support:**

In addition to youth programs, the foundation actively promoted Clippers' games and events within the community, encouraging fan attendance and participation. By rallying support for the team, the foundation contributed to the vibrant sports culture in the region and strengthened community ties.

**Collaborative Spirit:**

The partnership between the Melanin Youth Foundation and the Ontario Clippers exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving positive change. By combining efforts and resources, both organizations were able to amplify their impact and enrich the lives of individuals across the community.

**Outreach Impact:**

The foundation's street outreach efforts provided balanced lunch boxes, hygiene kits, and goodie bags to the homeless. Additionally, seniors at the Perris Senior Center received gifts and socks during the "Season of Giving" in December.

**Operational Improvements:**

While facing challenges, the foundation made strides in website development, social media engagement, and business planning. Networking and attendance at community events expanded the foundation's reach and partnerships.

**Statistical Highlights:**

Schools: Distributed over 31,350 pairs of socks to students and staff.

Senior Center: Provided 250 pairs of socks to seniors.

Nursing Center: Distributed 1,000 pairs of socks.

Homeless Outreach: Provided 2,500 pairs of socks and 450 boxed lunches.

Community Center: Assisted with 2,000 pairs of socks and other essentials.

Community Event: Distributed 4,000 pairs of socks.

Backpack Giveaway: Distributed over 1,400 backpacks filled with recommended school supplies to students in need, ensuring they were equipped for academic success.

In 2023, the Melanin Youth Foundation stood strong, facing challenges with resilience and unwavering dedication. Despite hurdles, we continued to shine brightly, touching lives across our community with hope and empowerment.

Throughout the year, our initiatives reached individuals of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and support. Despite obstacles, our commitment remained steadfast, driving us to make a positive impact where it was needed most.

As we reflect on the year gone by, we take pride in the progress we've made and the lives we've touched. Looking forward, we remain dedicated to our mission, knowing that with each small step, we bring light to those who need it most.

Additionally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Asha Imuno, a breakout vocal and musical artist, who donated the proceeds from his first 2 concerts to the Melanin Youth Foundation. Asha Imuno, along with his agent, Amit Dodani, were the first donors to contribute, sharing our vision for the foundation's impact. Their collaborations and contributions were crucial in allowing the Melanin Youth Foundation to fulfill its mission of helping those in need.
