RIVERSIDE CA
A collaborative match made in heaven, Melanin Youth
Foundation spearheaded by Krystal Singh and Much More
Than Mentorship, Head Cheerleader, Jacqui Dobens joined
forces to broaden a wider reach than either of them would
have been able to achieve alone. The heart of MYF is to offer
pertinent essential skills to often overlooked youth. While
MMTM saw a vacancy in the marketplace that desperately
needed to be filled. While the mentorship space is crowded
with services and programs that provide a corrective
approach, few, if any, provide a practical, organized, and
systematic approach. While group and individual ‘rap’
sessions, have their place, MMTM takes an aspirationally
inspired approach to disseminate durable life skills in a
gamification environment. Initially inspired by the very
successful program, The Amazing Shake, the brainchild of
the Ron Clark Academy in Georgia, we’ve plussed it and
made it our own by offering The Amazing Shake prep
sessions. We’ve now expanded under Our Brothers Keepers,
Roots to Wings, where we offer FNL program. Which stands
for Friday Nights Lights. It is designed as a inter and intra
district program where durable life skills competitions are
held cross town and across school district lines with
neighboring participating cities. Taking the sports rivalries to
the supplemental curriculum genre in the expression of
disseminating durable life skills. Students will be prepped in
6-10 week sessions leading up to community competitions.
This way, families and friends will be on hand to root for their
students. Also, community leaders will be on hand to judge,
participate, support and root (no pun intended) for their
school of choice. For intra-district competitions,
superintendents are encouraged to crown the winner. Thewinner of the intra-district competition will compete in the
cross town competition for bragging community rights.
🔊 PSA: What’s Next for the Melanin Youth Foundation?
We’ve been busy — and what’s coming in 2026 is major.
We’re talkin’:
🥼 A Free Laundry Room Program for unhoused neighbors and elders — because dignity isn’t optional.
🎓 Cultural Life Skills Summits where youth don’t just listen — they cook, learn CPR, budget, and think critically.
Stay tuned. It’s only getting better.
